Andralyn Brown is a 2022 graduate of Princeton High School in Cincinnati, Ohio.
Andralyn is a passionate artist who is not afraid to challenge herself in new ways of creating and thinking, but also has a clear style that connects the artwork that she makes, to her personally. She is a very thoughtful person who is a gracious learner and is a joy to have in class because of her positive nature and kindness to others. Andralyn has committed her high school experiences to include as much of the arts as possible, including 2 years in AP Art and 1 year in IB Art, as well as other art forms such as Photography and Ceramics, which shows a dedication and work ethic that is impressive. It is clear when you meet her and speak with her that she is mature and driven and will continue to impress us in her future studies and journeys. Andralyn has worked hard for everything that she has achieved at Princeton High School and is an amazing representative of the strength in the Visual Arts at Princeton.
The similarities between Treye and Andralyn's work is uncanning!
When I first saw Andralyn's work it was at Princeton's Art Festival show in May 2022. Her teacher, Lindsay Holliday invited me to the art show to look for possible recipients. At the festival, she pointed out Andralyn's artwork to me. After a few minutes of looking at her work, I turned to her teacher and asked her "did you realize that Treye and Andralyn's work are very similar? She said no...I pulled up his website and showed her two of his pictures. She slightly gasped with surprise..we both had the mutual feeling.
I looked at other student works, but I knew in my heart that Andralyn would be the obvious choice for our 1st recipient of the Treye Jenkins Smith Art Scholarhip. I viewed other art works, but circled back to Andrayn's work. There were so many similarties in content, style and artistic commentary
The use of the eyes was used symbollically in both their works. Treye used the eye in his piece 'Eye Bitch.' They both created an editorial art piece of a woman with a gun. Andralyn's was a colorful art piece, and Treye's is a black and white hip hop style graphic. They both share a contemporary graphic style, which Treye had only recently began experimenting with a year before his death.
Last, days after the Academic Awards ceremony at Princeton, I remembered that Andralyn's choice to attend Kentucky State University was the university my son attended.
I truly believe this was divinely orchestrated by God and his helper my son, Treye Jenkins Smith
Lindsay Holliday, Art Teacher, Department Chair
I have taught Art for 22 years in the Princeton City School District. I taught Middle School Art for 5 years and then moved over to the High School.
I graduated with a BS in Art Education and a Psychology Minor from the University of Evansville in 2000.
I graduated from the University of Cincinnati with an MA in Art Education in 2008.
I received my Master Teacher Certification in 2015 and continually further my education beyond the Masters +30 credit hours currently.
During this school year, I taught Photography, AP Studio Art, and IB Visual Art.
I love teaching Art because I love to learn and problem solve. Creating opportunities for my students to learn about Art, make Art, and express themselves through Art is always exciting for me. I love to work with students to problem solve and then enjoy watching when they do it independently.
My personal artwork is typically in photography or mixed media but I also love printmaking, painting, and drawing and have recently challenged myself to experiment with fiber arts.
